Friendly Friday with Get Your Craft On!

I can't believe I'm blog swapping with Erika today! I've been checking out her blog for quite a while now and she has so many amazing ideas...plus, I just love the name of her blog! We decided to be a little crazy with our swap and come up with a few crafty questions for each other to answer...who wants to do the same thing every time, right? So, here we go...1.) What project to you think best describes YOU?This is a tough one. Hhmmmmm. I guess I would say the bubble skirt. Because I'm bubbly? Maybe...but I really just love to make cute, fun clothes for kids!
2.) Considering all types of craftiness, what is your favorite thing to make? Sewing is definitely my craft of choice. I. Love. To. Sew. I had no idea 4 years ago that I would love it this much, but I sew all the time! Lately I've really been having fun making clothes for my two kiddos and upcycling has been an especially fun and rewarding challenge. My 4 year old loves his new monster shirt!
3.) What is your favorite snack to munch on while crafting?I can't say that I eat all that much while I craft, but I do like an ice cold drink and a few circus peanuts! I know, you probably are thinking "circus peanuts? GROSS!!"...but I love them!!!
4.) Which craft of yours is your husband's favorite? My husband always reminds me that THIS quilt is his favorite thing I've ever made. I'm not sure why. I made it for my sister when she was prego, but then she ended up having her a girl, so I made her a different one. I was going to give this one away, but now that my hubby has declared it as his favorite, I've decided to just keep it for our family. It's a fun pattern with 3-D pinwheels. I enjoy quilting, but I haven't done much recently.

5.) Besides crafting, what do you like to do in your free time?I have two young kiddos, so most of my time is with them. I'm always trying to sneak time to sew, but if I wasn't doing that, you can probably find me watching TV or a movie with my hubby. My new favorite show is GLEE...hilarious!! Oh...I guess I didn't even think about blogging...I do that WAY too much! 6.) Say you were stranded on and island and could only have one of your previous crafts with you. Which would you choose, and why?I would have to choose my Mod Podge Ceiling Fan. Not for it's cuteness, but because I hate to be HOT! And if I'm stranded on an island, I'm sure I'll be hot and want a fan to cool me off :)

Thanks again Erika! It was so fun swapping with you today!

Abbie

Two small problems solved with a little Mod Podge and paper.

Little problem #1:
The two grown-ups at our place use way too many glasses during the day. It's especially annoying because we don't have a dishwasher.

The solution:
Scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, and a sandwich bag.
Here's hoping it will save me some time washing glasses at the end of the day.

Little problem #2: Our doorbell is broken and I rarely hear when someone knocks (unless I'm in the kitchen). I called to ask if they would fix the doorbell and our super laughed. Until I figure out how to fix it (or call demanding that they come fix or else...! :) ), I've been leaving little post-its on our door when I'm expecting guests.
The post-its have become kind of a joke with our friends.

Solution:
A napkin (from one of our parties - I love these napkins), Mod Podge, foam sheet, stickers, and a magnet. I don't think it will last long because Mod Podge + napkin = tricky, but oh well. And remind me to take it down when our visitors leave - I don't want any creepsters thinking they're invited into our apartment.

Bye for now

So, I fully intended on posting a craft today...But, then time got the best of me. You see, I'm surprising my husband and flying us to his hometown to see his family for his birthday. He has no idea and I love it.
I've been running around like a mad man making arrangements, cleaning the house, and doing mounds and mounds of laundry that I just simply ran out of time to craft.

I feel really bad. Mainly because my poor blog will be void of new crafts until after Sunday (when we come back). So sad. Don't worry, though! I have left you in good hands.

Today, we'll have Abbie guest blog...Maybe a little later than usual (since I'll have to wait til I get to California to post), but she'll be here! And, on Friday I am doing a Friendly Friday post with a super talented and FUNNY lady. You won't want to miss it.

Anyway, signing out now! I'll miss you.

(be sure to check out the craft club! Everyone will be struttin' their stuff on Friday!)

Oh, and if you're itchin' for some great quilts...Check out my mom's blog! It's quilt week over there and she is awesome.

k, love you. Bye!

Join the Club

So, remember last week when I went on and on about my thoughts? Well, turns out, a lot of people feel exactly like little ol' me.

I had a few readers contact me about starting an online book club. Um...I LOVED that idea. So, here we go. Our very own online book club. Called...dun dun dun dun (that sounded more scary than I wanted it to. It was supposed to sound like a trumpet).... C'mon, Let's Book it!

So guys, C'mon! Let's Book it on over to that blog and get started (I'm sorry, that was a little over the top, wasn't it?)

Now, on to our second order of business.

What's that? You wish you could be in a craft club but none of your real life friends like to craft? pshaw, no problem. Introducing Crafts in Bloom.
Yup! Our very own online craft club! Head on over to see how it'll work.

Who needs real life friends anymore?

beady frame

I usually don't post crafts on Fridays, but I just couldn't help myself today. (Plus, my mom always asks when I am going to post another craft. So, here you go mom). Find today's Friendly Friday here.

My husband and I are house hunting right now. In fact, you can find our own version of "House Hunters" over there on our usually neglected family blog. Go check it out and guess which one we'll choose. Anyway! The point is, home decor is on the brain. I find myself laying in bed at night (er...early morning) not able to sleep because I just imagine my future home and how cute I hope we make it.

Yesterday, I made my first craft for that baby.I saw something like this at a botique near by and HAD to try it. I just took a frame, some mod podge, some cute paper, twine, paint and some flat floral beads and went to work. See? (pretend I remembered paint on the picture)

Just a little reminder

So, I've been getting lots of emails lately about a new blog called...What else? Oops I Craft My Pants.
Umm... Yeah. It used to be I Crafted This Today (or something like that)...But, she decided she wanted to change the site's name to Oops I Craft My Pants on January 6th. She even bought the domain so that it ends in .com.

CONFUSING, right?

So, here is my little reminder that this site is www.OopsICraftMyPants.NET not .com. K, peeps? This also means if you are trying to tell your friends where to find me, you've gotta make sure to add the net or they will end up somewhere completely different.

Isn't that annoying?
I tried to make this post as friendly as possible. But, I'm a little bugged.

Okay, that's all.
HOPEFULLY I can get a craft posted later today

Abbie Flashback

Flashback time!

This last week has been crazy busy! What does that mean? A flashback to one of my very favorite 4 part Mod Podge creations!

First the story: June of last year I decided I wanted to start crafting more. I was a once-a-year-crafter (Super Saturday) and I really enjoyed it, but I was intimidated. I also didn't want to do too many projects because we were moving soon. So, I started with a few little things and did a little post on our family blog.

Well, Miss Amy for ModPodgeRocks! commented and said check out my blog. I did. And WOW! That was the day I discovered craft blogs! I was amazed at how many ideas were out there. Awesome! Great! Fantastic!

So, I made a list of all the crafts I wanted to make once we got settle in New York. The first one on my list - and pretty much the inspiration for everything on the girl side of my kids' bedroom - was this canvas (originally featured here). I loved it! And I copied it; decided 1 was not enough, so and made 3 more - 1 to match for the girl side and 2 for the boy side.

Here they are:
The one I made:
The sister:

Don't they look like good friends together:

Brother one:

Brother two:

Buddies:

All the paper used in the canvas came from these 3 stacks:

Needless to say, I love ModPodge Amy! She ROCKS that Mod Podge like no other!

If you want to see the whole room put together - go ahead and click here. And don't be surprised if I do a few flashbacks from that room when I have a wicked crazy week. :)

I'm Cheesy

Valentine's Day is comin' up, you know. That means you're probably scrambling for cute ideas for homemade Valentine's. Here's an awesome one to give as a teacher present or even just to give to your friends or neighbors.

Soap! All I did was traced the shape of the bottle onto some cute paper and Mod Podged it right onto the front of the bottle. (I used outdoor Mod Podge so that it would be waterproof)...Then, I went to my handy dandy computer and made some super cheesy tags. Like this one.

Love it! Of course, the soap is just as cute without that tag. Making it a perfect present that'll actually be used. Can't be better than that!

Thoughts

I have had a few thoughts floating around my brain for a few days, so I thought I would get 'em out on the blog.

Thought #1- My mom's class reeeally needs more boxtops. They are the cutest little class which you can read more about here. Not sure what a box top is? No problem! It's this cute little thing on the packaging of a lot of different products. They look like this. Each box top is worth ten cents, and will go toward helping schools. Awesome. So, if you have a few laying around (or, wouldn't mind starting to keep some to send), that would make my mom's class so happy. So far, they have box tops from around 6 other states (and Canada!), they have a blast looking on the map and trying to figure out where their box tops are coming from. Who knows, there just might be a prize for the person who can send the most box tops to us before the end of May. Email me if you'd like the address to send them to ([email protected])

Thought #2: I need a good vacuum. Any suggestions? I would prefer not to spend over $200, but if it's an absolutely amazing one, I might just have to spend more.

Thought #3: I wish I liked to run. Like, really wish. How did all you runners out there get into it? I heard the couch to 5k works really well, but I am just scared for some reason. I definitely need to get in better shape, though. hmmm. Any tips and tricks would be awesome. Also, I'd love a work out buddy. Maybe that would keep me motivated.

Thought #4: I need to start a book club. Or a craft club. Or a cooking club. SOMETHING like that. I just don't have many real life friends who are interested in stuff like that. It makes me sad.

Thought #5: Why can I never sleep before 2 am? It's impossible, I swear. At least it leaves me lots of time to craft. I wish I were more of a morning person than a night person, though. Sleeping in wastes my day.

Thought #6:
I wonder who reads my blog. I wish I could get to know everyone. You should definitely leave a comment on this post and let me know you're there, all you lurkers out there! Talk to me. Tell me anything. Do you have a blog? I'd love to read it.

I'm a drop out

So, earlier this week I mentioned that my craft would be auditioning for the upcoming session of So You Think You're Crafty. You guys are all great for voting (even if it wasn't for me).

But, due to certain issues, I've decided to "drop out" of the competition. I'm a busy gal, and thought it would be best to devote my time and crafts to my own blog. I feel like this blog would have been a bit neglected if I had chosen to move on. I hope you're not ashamed of me.

Anyway, here's the craft I used to audition.

It's a memo board.

I loved every second of making this. You will love making your own, too.
All you've got to do it find a frame and paint it any color you want. Then, grab some wire and twist it around your finger a few times to make loops. After that, just hot glue it to the back of your frame and you're done. So easy, but yet so cute.

Photobucket

Anyway, auditions are still going on. If you haven't voted yet head on over to So You Think You're Crafty and do it! There are 17 top notch contestants.

She did it again

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. You guys are awesome. I loved all the emails and facebook messages.

For my birthday, my mom got me THE best present. Yup, she did it again. Two perfect presents in two months. I am one lucky girl.

This time she got me a little crate filled with craft supplies. Genius!

I have a lot in mind for the contents of this little guy.

(to oooh and aaah over my first great present from her, go here.)

Abbie

For the love of buttons.

An old sweater. A lot of buttons. Gilmore girls season 6.
I honestly don't know if I'll ever wear it, but I like the idea. Maybe I'll have to make one for the babe. She'll wear and love anything with buttons.

And...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
ERIKA!!!

Vote!

Thanks for all the love and support during my mini breakdown. You guys are the best readers in the entire world (seriously)!

Thanks to you, I've jumped back on the wagon and am (semi)confident with my crafting abilities. In fact, today you can find one of my most recent crafts (which you haven't seen yet) over on So You Think You're Crafty.

So You Think You're Crafty is a cute blog that has 10 finalists compete to be America's Favorite Crafter (I imagine the theme song for this contest would be "So You Think You Can Craftcraftcraft" but who knows...)

It's up to YOU to widdle down the 20(or so) crafters who are auditioning down to just TEN crafters to be finalists. I know, it's a hard task. But if anyone can tackle a task like that, it's you.

Now, all you need to do is go to So You Think You're Crafty and vote for your favorites. Come on, guys. Use your mind reading skills to figure out which project is mine. I know you can do it!

(ps. I'm still looking for some giveaways for this (which will hopefully be giveaway week) if you're interested, feel free to email me!)

Inadequate

All you craft bloggers out there, do you ever feel completely inadequate? I do.

Like today. I've been browsing other craft blogs, and thinking "holy freakin' cow. I will never, ever, ever measure up to that!" or, "I don't have any kids, so my silly little blog doesn't really appeal to the audience that so many other craft blogs do since I'm not making things for kids" (insert huge gasp for breath here) or, "I should just stop blogging and crafting altogether. I'm too busy with work and school." Woe is me. Woe woe woe.

Then, I realize that I literally wouldn't be able to cope without crafting and blogging. I would have no way to de-stress myself, I would have no way to meet other amazing crafters from all around the world, and I definitely would have nothing to do at 3 in the morning when I'm not tired.

So, even if I'm not quite "up to par" with the other craft bloggers, I am so incredibly thankful for the craft blogging community. And, for you!

Sorry for the random post. Sometimes I need to blab.
