Husband Crafts - No Sew Pocket

For weeks, my husband has been talking about adding pockets to t-shirts. I tried to explain to the poor guy that I really don’t know how to sew, but he insisted it wasn’t that he would do it all on his own-Without sewing. That’s right! My husband made a no sew pocket. Be jealous.

Really, you guys. He went to the fabric store and picked out the manliest of prints (clearly, this particular fabric store didn’t have many manly prints to pick from), grabbed some cheap-o shirts, and got to work on his no sew pocket for a tee shirt.

I tried to not be a freak and breathe over him as he made his pattern, but people. I was the epitome of annoying wife. I watched over his shoulder and said things like “are you sure that pocket isn’t going to look huge on your shirt?” and, “why would you cut the middle out like that? This is seriously stressing me out!”

Calmly, he held the pocket up to his shirt, and by golly! It was the perfect size. Then, he explained that he cut out the middle of the pocket so he’d be able to see the fabric underneath and make sure the fabric placement looked alright.
YOU GUYS! My husband is a genius!

From then on, I kept all my little comments to myself and only stood a little too close to him (as opposed to breathing in his ear).

I pretty much beamed with pride as we took out my heat n bond and got to work ironing the pocket into perfect shape.

Are these not the cutest shirts you ever laid your eyes on? I’m obsessed.

I’m also obsessed with the fact that he came up with this craft 100% by himself, and then executed the entire thing. Pretty much, I told him he’s now expected to contribute to the blog regularly. I’m excited to see what other things he comes up with!

Oh my Heck! UTAH printable

It’s clear that I’m obsessed with Utah, right? I mean, I already made one Utah printable! But, I thought I’d share another in honor of Pioneer Day (Utah’s Holiday-Holla!), my Oh my Heck! Utah Printable.

I’m a little bit in love with this one because “Oh my heck!” is such a Utah thing to say.
I knew I wanted to make something Utah related, so I started thinking of sayings that us Utahns use a lot. Like: “what the crap”, “oh my gosh”, “just barely”, “you guys”, “shiz”, and a plethora of other gems. Ultimately, though, I landed on the good old saying “oh my heck” and made a Utah printable out of it. I’m in love with the outcome. It makes me smile every time I walk past.

Want a little Utah love in your home?
Here’s a printable 8×10 version of the print above. Just click here to download the Utah oh my heck print and then print it out on cardstock.
You will need to trim it a bit to fit into your frame (since regular printer paper is 8.5×11).

The power of spray paint

I’m a member of a vintage yard sale group on Facebook and pretty much every post has me swooning over beautiful items.

Usually, I’m not fast enough to snatch up the things in my price range, but last week all the stars aligned and I was able to score this beautiful vintage tea cart. Similar carts sell for about $100 on ebay, so I was pretty excited to score this bad boy for just $25.

Unfortunately, once I had it in my possession I realized that the gold paint was in horrible condition. I toyed with the thought of just repainting it gold-But, thought I’d go a little outside my comfort zone and go yellow.

I am so glad I took the risk! I am loving this before and after shot.

Isn’t the yellow just so much more fun? I love the life that the piece brings into the room.

Plus, my chatbooks (instagram books) look all lined up on it.

Basically, I’m pretty much in awe at what spray paint can do to change a piece.

Have you ever spray painted something and felt like it made your piece a billion times better? Leave me a link in the comments. I’d love to see it!

Thanks for reading.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love a good pun. I am basically the cheesy queen, and I’m always making ridiculous jokes. Some people find it endearing, other people roll their eyes. Hopefully you are part of the first camp, because, guys. I have the cheesiest back to school teacher gift ever.

Homemade vanilla with special sayings on them. One says “you’re EXTRACTly the teacher I wanted this year!” while the other reads “do me a FLAVOR and have a great school year”.

I wish you could have been there in bed with my husband and me when we came up with these. We were pretty certain one of us was going to laugh ourselves to death. It was just really really funny, and I am so happy I have someone just as punny as I am to share this crazy life with. But I digress.

Who wouldn’t love some homemade vanilla? It’s delicious and so easy to make (check out my how to on my other blog, Life Unfluffed).

Once you’ve made your vanilla, just pour it into some bottles (I bought these ones, but in hindsight I sort of wish I would have purchased clear ones!), print off the labels onto sticker paper, cut them out and stick them on! Easy as pie.

I also made a little label for the back side of the jars because I wanted there to be a place for names and also for the date that it was made. Homemade vanilla lasts indefinitely, but I think it’s a fun little thing to have on there. Be sure to tell your child’s teacher if the vanilla hasn’t aged long enough, though (usually about 6-10 weeks).
