3...2...1 Blastoff!

Here's my second quiet book page. I saw this idea here and decided to work off of it. I think she provided a template for that exact page, but I decided to do it freehand so it was a little more "mine".



On this page, children can practice counting (forward and backward to 3) and they can also make the rocket ship "fly" to the moon on the piece of ribbon.



I looove how the moon turned out. It was definitely not planned to look that way. It was just going to be a plain old circle. The problem? I needed to iron out a crease. Apparently my iron was too hot and so it melted the fabric to look like that. Isn't that the perfect texture for a moon?


I won't be posting at all this weekend. It's my husband and my anniversary and we're going somewhere special. Regular posting will resume on Monday. I hope to see you all there! Cookie-Sheet Calendar

This past week, a lady from my husband's work let me borrow her Cricut machine. Um, I am in LOVE with it.
I've been wanting to make a cookie sheet calendar for a while now, so this was the perfect opportunity.
(Be prepared, this post has a TON of pictures)

First, I got out my cookie sheet and began cutting computer paper so that I could see what layout I wanted before actually cutting the chip board. I took a few ideas from different blogs, and finally decided that my calendar would have quotes and pictures.

Once I got that down, I decided to start cutting out the chipboard with normal scissors.
After I got all the pieces cut, I swore I would never (ever ever) cut chipboard again. My fingers STILL have bruises on them.




Once the chip board was cut, I cut and glued paper to the chipboard. This is where I began to fall in love. That love only grew once I started adding letters.

Play Ball!

I've been working on a "quiet book" for my nephew's Christmas present. So far, I'm lovin' how it's turning out.

Here's one of the five pages I have done so far.



It doesn't look perfect by any means. In fact, I kind of like it that way. All my pages are hand sewn and I sort of just made up the patterns as I went.


On this particular page, it's set up so that he can stick his hand in the mitt, and also take the baseball off of the snap and put it "into" the mitt like he's catching the ball. I think he'll love this page!

I have a feeling that once this quiet book is all completed, I'm going to have a hard time giving it away. We'll see!

What I've been up to

Sorry I haven't posted at all the past few days. I just got a new computer, so I'm working on getting pictures up and running on this one. My old computer is completely trashed, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the pictures off of it...Dang.

Besides playing around on my new computer, I've been crafting a lot (crafting my pants off, I guess you could say!) Mainly, I've been working on a calendar. Let me just tell you, my hands HURT. I really have bruises on my thumb and finger from holding scissors too much. Ouch!

Button Pillow

This is my first attempt at making a pillow, I think it turned out pretty well.

(try to ignore the fact that there's still hot glue on the buttons...I'll peel it off, don't you worry! It just needs to dry a bit more.)

I would have liked to make the buttons into a cute bird or something, but I just couldn't make the shape right. So, my husband and my first initials went on there. Can I hear a collective "awww"?

I think this pillow will go great in our new apartment. I can't wait to decorate that place. It needs a lot of love.

Any ideas on how to make a dumpy apartment into something great? I'll be brainstorming a lot, that's for sure!

Sugar Scrub (literally)

A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to try making a sugar scrub for myself. So, I looked all around google, in search of the perfect scrub for me.

Here's what I found:
1/4 C brown sugar
1/4 C white sugar
1/2 t cinnamon
1/2 t ground ginger
1/2 t ground cloves
Oil: olive oil (or other oil)

I was a huge fan of how it looked and smelled (delicious).

...Then, I used it in the shower. It scrubbed pretty well.... But, it would NOT come off my skin. We're not talking just the oil here, people. The mixture of spices actually stuck to my skin! I looked (and smelled) like a freaking cookie. Great.
So, I had to scrub twice to get it all off. Not to mention, I ended up having to scrub my previously clean shower to get all the gunk off.

I will say, though...My skin felt amazing after that! Does it look darling in those little Ikea jars? Yes. Was it worth all the clean up? Probably not.

I'm still on the hunt for a good homemade scrub. Or, maybe some bath salt? We'll see. My mom gave me the cutest jars to use... Now, I just need the perfect thing to fill them with.

Also, I am adding this post to Hooked on Houses "hooked on..." party tonight.
Right now, I'm hooked on finding the perfect jar filler. I'm also hooked on nurturing this new blog of mine. I could spend hours and hours decorating it.
I feel like I should also mention that you guys made me feel so loved yesterday at the "grand opening" of my blog. I never expected to get any commenters this early on, let alone six followers! You guys are great, and I'm definitely hooked on making new friends through this blog!

Ps. I always feel like I won 1st place at a marathon or something when I hit spell check and realize I made no spelling errors (minus that face that they're claiming "commenters" isn't a word, pfft. Here is is)! That doesn't happen often.

The First Craft

(of many to come!)

So, here I am ready to post my first craft for the world to see. I'll admit, I'm a little nervous.

A few weeks ago, Mr. Craft Pants bought me a decorative star. I was so excited because I had wanted one for a long time. I had a lot of ideas for that little star brewing up in my mind. And finally, one was all mine.

Once it was in my hands, I was terrified to do anything to it. I was so worried that I was going to mess up that precious star.

After debating in my mind for a few days what I wanted to do with that beloved star, I decided to throw all my previous ideas out the window and just get to work!

Here is what I came up with:

I'm very happy with how it came out. I just wish that it matched my decor. Dang.

I think that a star decorated that way would be perfect for a baby nursery. It would give the room such a great feel, don't you think?



So, tell me. Are you ever afraid to start crafting, or am I just crazy?

Goooooal!

I think you're supposed to say that once you actually reach your goal. Which, I definitely haven't. Oops.

See, I'm an amature crafter. I barely know how to sew, and I just started getting down and dirty (so they say) in the wonderful world of crafting. So, I've decided to make it a goal to get better.

In order to get better, I've decided to make presents for everyone on Mr. Craft Pants' side of the family for Christmas. I'm very excited about this challenge. It'll save money and it'll help me build some serious skill (I hope).

How The Blog Got Her Name

Lately, I have been crafting up a storm. Really. You should see my house. It is a mess with furniture being painted in one corner, quiet books being sewn in another, etc. etc.... It's crazy, I tell you!

Really, I have been crafting my pants off! Hence, the name.

Anyway, this blog was created to sort of "showcase" my crafts, as well as highlight those crafts that I want to do in the near future. Mmm. I get butterflies just thinking of all of my future projects! I hope you enjoy them, too.
