If you are anything like me (when I was in college), buying your books makes you want to cry.

This is a great idea - luckily as a grad student I have not had very many books to buy (for my masters most are journal articles) - I could have used a much larger print budget each semester though. There are some terrific sites to buy books at too for lower than bookstore prices, if you must buy: BigWords.com, Albris, and I always seem to find a good used text book priced competitively at Amazon. I'm kind of a book lover and have kept many of my art and designs books.
