Wood Pallet Roundup

Making the dog bed from Monday made me absolutely fall in love with wood pallets. They are so much fun to work with, and the possibilities of what can be made from them are endless. So, I decided to make a little wood pallet round up. Hope you enjoy.

  3. While I admire the Do-It-Yourself creativity here, what this actually does is list 10 things you should never make out of a wood pallet. Wood pallets can carry listeria and salmonella among other pathogens. They can also be infested with insect pests and fungi. Wood pallets that are treated to eliminate these issues are full of the toxic chemicals that are also very bad for humans and animals. On top of that, they often contain formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. The chemicals and formaldehyde can off-gas into the air you breathe inside your home.

    Wood pallets are a DIY Don’t. You should never have wood pallets inside your home or anywhere they will come into contact with humans or animals. You can’t clean the toxic agents out of a wood pallet. No amount of cleanser, scraping or sanding will do it. Painting over them doesn’t help. Once it’s in, it’s in for good. No matter how cute or functional the DIY project you have in mind, wood pallets do not belong in the home.

  5. Sigh ... Good on you for trying Anonymous, some people just don't care. If it was only themselves they were exposing to nasties it wouldn't really matter, but I cringe when I see kid's furniture and decorations made from the stuff. I was thinking of making something out of pallets, but a quick Google to check on the safety of the wood has put me right off that idea. Wake up morons.
