I don't sew

I really really really don't.

No matter how hard I try, that little bobbin does me in every time.

But, last night I decided to (attempt) to conquer that fear. See...I had this little number from Savers' 1/2 off sale a few weeks ago.

Sorry for the awful lighting. But, we can all agree it needed a little love,  am I right?

Anyway, along with being a horrible sewer (seamstress?), I'm horrible at measuring. I like instant gratification, and well, measuring just takes sew (HA!) long. So, I just eyeballed every thing and started cutting. I messed up like 10 times, minimum. But, I blame it on my sewing machine and not myself. I mean, how come it let me sew for five minutes with no thread?

In the end, my battle with the sewing machine paid off. I'm lovin' the end result.

Don't you just love the accent weeds in the background? Next year we're getting grass, okay? Try not to judge me too horribly! I wore my TOMS in case one of those poky ones tried to attack me.

But anyway, here's a before and after side by side shot, just so you don't have to scroll up.

Hopefully my next few attempts will go more smoothly. But, for now, I'm pretty darn proud of myself!

  1. Cute! Love how your *new* skirt turned out! Shame on that sewing machine of yours for letting you waste time stitching w/o thread :)

  3. Sewing frustrates me a little, too. The measuring, the trickiness of cutting fabric in a straight line, and the IRONING! Whenever a project calls for pressing a seam, I groan and just take a stab at it without the iron, and then I usually end up regretting it and realizing why the ironing was important.

Great work, though. Let's keep working on conquering our fears together!

  4. This turned out so cute! I started sewing last year and I almost always eyeball things...I've just started making patterns recently, but if you stick to basic things and use stretchy fabric, it feels much more successful. Good luck!

  5. It turned out lovely!! I had to laugh when you said you were sewing for five minutes without thread! I hate it when that happens, for me it's normally when my bobbin runs out and I dont realise *facepalm*

  6. I am horrible at sewing, but I want to learn so bad...I keep trying! I think it's part of being a right brained person....I don't do math or measuring. I also think I need to learn patience, before I will beable to sew! =)...Your dress turned out super adorable!!!
