Sorry for the mess. I'm trying to get a new design up and running!

I'm a blogging dummy.

Yesterday, my husband and I went to Barnes and Noble to browse around. We love that place.
As usual, we found way too many books that we wanted. Luckily, we were able to dwindle it down to just two.

Mine was a book about Blogging. And, can I just tell you right now, it's amazing? I'm totally lovin' it. I really couldn't even put it down until around 2 am, when my droopy eyes made me go to bed.

So, then I was thinking, "maybe I should ask my readers for some blogging tips and I can share them here, on my blog later!" It sounded like a marvelous idea, so here I am, asking YOU to let me know YOUR blogging tips. What kind of blogs do you like to read? What blogs do you try to steer clear of (looks wise or content wise)? What are some of your favorite blogs? How often do you like blogs to be updated? Do you thinks Ads are okay?

Let me know your thoughts on all things blog! Who knows? Your idea may just be featured in an upcoming post.

I'm participating in Tidy Mom's I'm Lovin' It! Fridays...You should too!

I need to get this book!

If a blog has music that starts up right away, then about 90% of the time I'll leave without reading anything.
One of my favorite things is using Live Writer to write my posts (for a blogspot blog), it's much easier than using the actually blogger form.

Does this book have any good SEO advice? I find that what I've seen is so crazily beyond me... I need SEO for dummies :)

oh what a great idea!! Think I need to go check that out! I also just found your blog and am looking forward to looking at more!

My biggest blogging gripe is when people haven't enabled their blogger profile and haven't stored an email address to their profile.

When I get an email notification about a blog comment I almost always want to respond but if, when I hit reply, it gives me the blogger@noreply email address I don't always have time to hunt down their contact information. And if your profile is disabled no one can ever contact you.

I love keeping in contact with my blogging friends! And, sometimes they win prizes. It's so sad when I can't just hit reply!

I guess there is a reason some people want to stay anonymous but there are ways you can do that AND still leave contact info. Hello, email forwarding. Gmail has it all.

Anyway, I wrote an entire post about how to fix this, complete with screen shots. Here's the link. http://flexibledreams.blogspot.com/2010/02/bloging-tips-part-2.html

I just started blogging and it is very overwhelming! So far I think pictures and keeping things simple are what get me reading. :)

Ooooh I totally want to check out this book now!! I'd love some blogging tips!! Thanks for sharing that book with us!!

I too wish that everyone would have their email address easily findable. I am a hostess of a regular Vintage holiday blog party and when I need to get ahold of my participants and they don't have an email address I want to tear my hair out!!!!!!! xo Joan thepottingshed-anythinggoeshere.blogspot.com/

I totally agree on the music playing once the blog opens. ANNOYING. If I have music on my blog, I make sure the reader's are in charge of when and if it plays :) I also like blogs that keep it simple, but still have personality- not too much clutter!!!

But what does the book say?!?

Nora

What irks me during blog surfing?

(1) misspelled posts (there's a spell-check available if you're unsure)

(2) word verification - I rarely leave a comment if someone has verifications on. It's SO much easier for the owner to just moderate your comments to avoid or remove spam.

(3) the type in the body of the post is too small or you can't see it because the background is competing - hard on the eyes. Dress up the edges, but leave the body pale or solid and you can bold or enlarge your typeset using the Edit features

My best advice...if you see a blog you like, e-mail the owner & ask them questions about how they did what they did. We ALL love positive feedback & knowing that someone is wanting to do something similar to ours is a sincere form of flattery. I haven't asked a blogger a question yet that I didn't get an upbeat and helpful response to. That's how we help each other learn.

My sis and I are also new to blogging, and will have to check back here often to see what you've learned and other tips people have shared. But what I HAVE to say is, I love your blog name...it made me laugh (literally out loud, but I didn't want to type LOL). :) The name reminds me of a SNL episode w/ Oops I crapped my pants... gotta love it!

I recently bought the craft marketplace book, which explains a lot about blogging and selling your own crafts, I really liked it!
I like your blog too! come by for a visit you have a chance. www.woodencheststudio.blogspot.com

I have to ditto x3, music on a blog is a no go. I have to agree with everything Nora said as well. Harsh colors especially make me run for the red X button fast. I like fun, upbeat, informational blogs. Snarky or hypercritical blogs are no fun. Ads are ok with me, I usually find great new things that way when I visit my favorite craft blogs. Im struggling with how many posts is enough. I have 3 kids and cant always churn out a project as quickly as Id like. Once a week is good! Your blog is great, easy to read, fun and great info too! Now Ill have to head over to B&N to pick up a copy, Im a blog newbie and feel like I have a lot to learn! Sorry, for the book...

Erin

Another vote for music...I read blogs late or at naptime so it is quit...about gives me a heartattack most of the time!

I love when posts are a couple of times a week....if they are good posts...if you don't have time or anything you really want to say then don't! I hate when bloggers just want the number of times they post high...so they post junk...after a few of those I usually delete out of my reader!

I really enjoy posts that are funny and share an idea or improve on something that they have seen.

Also agree about the crazy busy blogs!

AuniLeigh

I also agree on the music I usually hit the back arrow and move onto the next blog.

I got a book at B&N when I first started blogging called "Blogging for Bliss" its about a crafters blog and it gives good ideas how to get started and yada, yada!

I like fun simple blogs too. I'm a simple non-writer kind of blogger. I do it because its enjoyable.

Your title grabbed my attention too, and like the other person that commented I did a big huge LOL.
